Trailer for New Documentary: “A World Worth Imagining”

We are pleased to introduce to you the S.O.U.L. Documentary team who came in 2017 to film for a documentary that they produced. We are excited that it will be coming out by the end of 2019. Below is a message from them with an invitation to view the trailer to their exciting new documentary about The Venus Project, featuring the last interview with Jacque:
Message from the S.O.U.L. Documentary team:
When we traveled across the country to meet and interview Jacque and Roxanne, two of our personal heroes, we had no idea that we were being gifted the final interview of Jacque’s life. Knowing it had been years since the previous interview, he gave it his absolute all, despite having suffered from Parkinson’s Disease for years. Compelled by our being so moved in his presence, and as a tribute to the effort he made, we felt these interviews were worthy of being the basis for a documentary.
While you are already familiar with Jacque’s unprecedented body of work, you most likely have never heard him speak with such compassion and tenderness, as if being shared the last words of wisdom from your brilliant grandfather. And for those who see it and are just discovering Jacque, Roxanne, the Resource Based Economy, and all that can mean for our future, their hearts are sure to be warmed by the powerful message of the film as well.
“A World Worth Imagining – Jacque Fresco, The Man With The Plan”, co-starring Roxanne Meadows, also includes a multitude of animations from The Venus Project and never-before-seen footage made available by the fact that we turned the film over for editing to long-time volunteer Joel Holt, who had done editing work on other documentaries made in-house at The Venus Project.
Because you are a loyal supporter of The Venus Project, you get the exclusive first glance at the trailer for the film.
Songs from the soundtrack to the film, one of which is dedicated to Jacque, are available here.
S.O.U.L. founder, and the film’s Executive Producer, Evan Gary Hirsch has pledged a matching $25,000 grant to be raised in conjunction with the release of the film this fall. Join the S.O.U.L. Tribe to find out more and follow the exciting developments: https://souldocumentary.love/the_venus_project/

Documentary

To cover at least a portion of their production costs (over $300,000), S.O.U.L. Documentary has made the difficult decision to request that people rent or purchase the movie for a nominal fee. A portion of the proceeds will go to The Venus Project (in addition to their $50,000 matching grant campaign).

Matching Donations Campaign

In conjunction with the release of the documentary, S.O.U.L. has graciously offered to match up to $50,000 donated to The Venus Project by December 15, 2019. From the team: “Please join us in supporting this amazing effort by their vast array of volunteers to bring about Jacque and Roxanne’s vision of a world beyond politics, poverty, and war.”

CAMPAIGN GOALS

With the publication of The Best That Money Can’t Buy in 2002, Jacque Fresco succeeded in summarizing the vision of The Venus Project for the general public. Since that time, most of the information made available to the public on YouTube and elsewhere has been introductory and/or informal, leading many to wonder, “What else is there?”
Since 2010, The Venus Project released a series of 50 lectures (by Jacque Fresco) to the public in both audio and video form; lectures recorded from as early as 1974 to as late as 2011. These 50 lectures represent approximately 6% of the unique information recorded in audio/video form that has survived across a range of 50 years to the present.
Despite being a prolific illustrator, designer, lecturer, and model-maker, Fresco was not a prolific writer. To remedy this, 125 volunteers have worked since 2014 to transform his 864 lectures into transcripts. To date, they have succeeded in transcribing about 14%.
We have come to understand that Fresco’s lectures represent much more than education about science and a vision for the future. These lectures provide a spectrum of value ranging from innovative ideas about technology, original hypotheses for science, and statements of many problems that must be solved. They also provide personal advice aimed at helping a person cope with the rapidly changing world and people around them. Most importantly, these lectures synthesize the ideas of several fields of science and provide the rationale for The Venus Project’s social direction.
As students of Jacque Fresco striving to implement real-world projects that aim toward the vision, we would benefit greatly from these lectures as sources of information, being made more easily accessible, searchable, and cit-able. Without this, we fear losing the foundation that set The Venus Project in motion. As we enter into high-stakes projects that consume our time and resources, accomplishing this foundational task may become less likely. Therefore, a strong sense of urgency arises.
Internal Qualification and Scholarship
This lack of formal publications by Jacque Fresco places us in a conundrum for two major reasons.
To participate effectively in The Venus Project, members must meet standards of both external and internal qualifications. Fresco’s work represents the bulk of the source material required to suffice internal qualification. Having more information readily available from Fresco’s lectures will improve our processes of internal qualification by better educating people about The Venus Project.
The second half of our conundrum pertains to a lack of scholarly research showing that our diagnoses and proposals are well-founded. Together with Fresco’s limited output in written form, this lack of scholarship obscures the depth and breadth of our knowledge-base. Having well-researched publications will help us clarify the level of support that exists for The Venus Project’s plans from a scientific perspective. This will help us collaborate effectively with research institutions and scholars across a wide range of fields to improve our presentation.
As we synthesize with other initiatives and ideas, we still must preserve the intent of the direction and the unique approach that has grown out of Jacque Fresco’s body of work to prevent unwarranted regression toward the status quo. In the absence of both internal qualification and communication through scholarship, we risk losing the systems-oriented, complex, global, big-picture perspective upon which The Venus Project was founded.
Fundraiser
To remedy both deficits, this fundraiser will provide funds to advance securing The Venus Project’s foundation. The funds will be used to:
1.) Further convert Jacque Fresco’s lectures into a more accessible form
2.) Begin engaging scholars to perform formal research on our behalf
Funding will be allocated as follows:
  • Transcribe the remaining unreleased 747 lectures of Jacque Fresco and systematically categorize and organize them for easier discovery of knowledge. We can then e-publish books from Jacque Fresco on important topics relevant to our global problems. These will be used to help orient scholars to The Venus Project’s ideas and further coordinate research objectives. These transcripts will also help set in motion the eventual publishing of a Collected Works of Jacque Fresco, available to the public for the first time. – $25K
  • Fund scholarships and grants for scholars to perform literature reviews and publish research papers pertinent to The Venus Project. – $45K
  • Continue operations and work at the Center in Venus, Florida. – $20K
Any/all remaining funds will be allocated to further our goals.
Foundations
These funds will help us secure The Venus Project’s foundations by fully accounting for Jacque Fresco’s contribution and set the stage for scholarly research aimed at better understanding existing problems and potential solutions. This will lay the groundwork for research programs at the Center for Resource Management that, in turn, lays the foundation for a transdisciplinary field dedicated to a science of Earth management.
Further announcements about Fresco’s body of work and our scholarly efforts will be provided as progress is made.

The Resource Based Economy first project

The Resource Based Economy NPO has begun development of its first project: the Center for Resource Management. This facility will be the area of a mid-sized university campus and will act as a stepping stone towards the development of our proposed experimental cities.
The goals that the Center for Resource Management is set to accomplish are as follows:
  • Develop housing, transportation, production, distribution and recycling protocols and various other systems and infrastructure for the first experimental city
  • Welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors per year and introduce them to the concept of a Global Resource Based Economy and its methodology for addressing the major challenges facing humanity
  • Produce movies, shows, books, articles, animations, imagery, music and many other forms of media to reach the worldwide community and present the Global Resource Based Economy to them
  • Engage scientists, technicians, and other disciplines, as well as universities from around the world and, in collaboration with them, initiate global planning for a secure and prosperous future for all of humanity
  • Demonstrate working solutions for social operation and arriving at decisions, education, communication, collaboration, and resource management that can readily be scaled up to a full city and beyond
  • To tackle these important challenges, the Center for Resource Management will have over twenty buildings, including housing for a few hundred people who will work towards these goals.
The entire facility will be designed to be as self-sustaining as possible, with all of the energy coming from renewable sources and food grown onsite. Located in the central area will be a “Museum of the Future”. This unique museum will present educational exhibitions to help people both understand the state of present-day technology, as well as its potential when utilized humanely within a Global Resource Based Economy. There will be accommodations for visitors who want to stay for more than a day, and educational seminars will be provided for them to learn more about this social direction.
The Center for Resource Management will also house facilities for producing a diverse array of media to help further these aims through films, a CGI studio, and an arts and music center. Residents and visitors will live in single- and multi-unit apartments, with onsite acute medical care also provided. Waste and water will be treated as important resources to be reused. Facilities management cannot be overlooked and will be provided for with a machine shop. R&D labs will be included as well for researchers who want to do related scientific work. An access center will provide on-demand access to a wide variety of goods, similar to how libraries today provide access to books. The whole complex will operate like a leading-edge, green university campus, all immersed in lush landscaping, with winding streams and paths for biking and walking.
The building designs are taken directly from the over 5500 design sketches that Jacque Fresco produced over the last 41 years, with the design layout arranged by Roxanne Meadows. Adam Bouzane, D.EDDT, a Building Technologist, System Administrator, is Project Managing the technical drawings and specifications.

DEMONSTRATING A NEW APPROACH TO SOCIAL CHANGE

A major difference setting this project apart from other initiatives that tackle humanity’s grand challenges is the systems approach to imagining how society could operate. All permanent residents of the experimental community in the Center for Resource Management will have access to housing, food, water, clothing, energy, education, all at no cost. Resources will be much more intelligently managed - 3D printers, tools, bikes, vehicles, and so on will be collectively used and shared, while ensuring they are in good condition and available without waiting lines. While the technological and social innovation in this first experimental community will be limited by the available resources, the first city and subsequent cities will incorporate lessons learned and improve every aspect of the system. This systems approach can be replicated and scaled up to eventually allow all of humanity to choose to live in cities that implement this new social system. By developing a set of metrics, we can measure how well the social system meets the needs of each member of society. These metrics will measure how well the Center for Resource Management and subsequent cities perform in each of the following areas:
  • Universal access to clean air
  • Universal access to clean water
  • Physical well being of all members of society (including access to effective healthcare)
  • Universal access to nutritious and healthy food
  • Ecological sustainability (no greenhouse gases and environmental damage)
  • Universal access to the best available education
  • Universal access to comfortable clothing
  • Safety (little or no violence and crime)
  • Personal satisfaction
  • Universal access to comfortable housing
  • Universal access to effective transportation
  • The population’s engagement and participation in efforts towards the well being of all people
  • Instead of voting for representatives who debate over what laws should be put in place, democracy in this setup will work in a more direct way. The public will have access to all the data about the operation of the social system, which will allow for a more informed problem solving. Everyone will be able to put forth their ideas for changes to how the social system works. Proposed changes to the social system can then be tested and measured against the set of metrics to determine whether they provide more benefit to society. After testing, the proposed changes that prove beneficial get implemented. The set of metrics are the unifying factor – they allow us to know how much we are achieving our goals as a society, namely: ensuring well being for all people and the protection and restoration of the environment.
Another important aspect is the management of society. This will be accomplished by each team in the social system working within their own area of competence, and having the ability and access to implement changes in that area. While ensuring a high degree of collaboration between the teams, each team will look after a certain aspect of society – food, water, energy, education, safety, etc. With the progress of technology over the coming years, more and more of the work of the teams will be automated – a process that is well underway and will happen anyway within the current dominant social system. The intent of our proposed social direction is to use technology and automation to provide abundance in all aspects of the society, removing the need to have a small number of people decide how limited resources will be distributed.
Because people living in the Center for Resource Management will not be preoccupied with making a living, they will be able to focus full-time on making changes to this new social system to address any existing problems within the community, while at the same time designing and developing the next-generation systems for a first experimental city built on this social model. Each subsequent city would improve upon every area of the social system and could be bigger in size, allowing testing of the system to happen on a larger and larger scale. By demonstrating the feasibility of this system, we think people, organizations and governments will choose to participate and join efforts with us to replicate it in various parts of the world.
