You were born in North Carolina, United States…. Do you have, like many Americans, any other roots?
My ethnic roots are European such as German and Italian. However, as would be expected with respect to the zeitgeist movement, I find little merit to such distinctions except from a fundamental historical and cultural standpoint as the concept of “ethnic roots” serves to cause more division than unity. There is only one race-the human race.
How did the idea of Zeitgeist come to you?
The word “Zeitgeist” always struck me as a profound concept which I could not find another word to describe. The very idea of the shared awareness of the time of a given culture embodies virtually everything we could consider with respect to the human and ecological condition. So – it was a natural gravitation for me to use that title for my films and eventually the zeitgeist movement. In the case of the zeitgeist movement, the meaning is even more literal as we are dealing with the evolution of the true Zeitgeist – and hence its “Movement” over time. I often joke that everyone on the planet Earth is in The Zeitgeist Movement whether they like it or not as they are contributing to the cultural state of “normality” at all times, creating change whether good or bad.
Did you feel or had any threats against your life because of the Zeitgeist truths?
While I have never been accosted in public, I certainly have received an endless stream of hate mail and harassment in general. Today on the Internet there are dedicated teams of people who spend great amounts of time working to debase and bother and harass myself and the Zeitgeist movement publicly… this is very common now and I expect it will only get worse.
Jacque Fresco’s “Venus project” reminds me of a Communism world. Am I correct to believe this? Is it possible for Venus Project to become a reality?
The Venus Project, which is no longer affiliated with the zeitgeist movement directly, is a variation on of the train of thought that arrives at proper scientific decision-making for social sustainability. While communism as it has been historically talked about might appear to have overlap, it is not the same as a resource-based economy because the source of the decisions that define the design comes from self generated scientific principles – not moral principles. Karl Marx for example really dealt more in the ethics of human behavior and how it relates to social organization for “fairness” in a philosophical sense, rather than a perspective that originates from physical science itself-hence the natural order of the world as best we can understand it.
As noted prior, the Venus Project is very much a creative project by Jacque Fresco in that his vision is very much a part of the expression, artistically. The zeitgeist movement does not incorporate such a gesture of vision but rather holds on to the train of thought only – avoiding “establishments” at all times.
